“…there is a clarity about September. On clear days, the sun seems brighter, the sky more blue, the white clouds take on marvelous shapes; the moon is a wonderful apparition, rising gold, cooling to silver; and the stars are so big.” -Faith Baldwin

In September we bid goodbye to the hot, hazy, humid days of summer and welcome the crisper, cooler, colorful days of Fall. There are more campfires; less pool toys and wet towels. Sweatshirts and flannel sheets are swapped with bathing suits and flipflops – the former coming out of storage; the latter packed away until next year. The trees begin rehearsal for their annual display of rich reds and golds. Squirrels and chipmunks are busy gathering nuts to fill their winter pantry; deer exchange their burnished walnut summer wear for fluffier warmer winter coats. For activities, September is both a month of recovery from the busy summer season and a month of gearing up for the crazy wild fun of October. During the week, the energy of the campground changes from raucous to relaxed. Adult crafts and card games dominate weekdays; however, weekends remain full of families enjoying the last bit of the camping season. During September weekends remain packed with adult and family activities, as well as Friday night bingo or a movie, Saturday night entertainment and Sunday morning archery and tie-dye. The first full weekend in September is our GBR Celebrates the Arts Weekend, followed by our Pamper Your Pet Weekend with the annual Doggie Paddle. The 3rd weekend in September is our very popular Wine and Cheese Festival and lastly is our Fall Fest!

As many of you know water has been an issue here at GBR. Conditions remain very dry here and the combination of drought and unusually high heat indexes have made it very difficult for our wells to keep up with demand. While water conservation still remains critical, we now have a permit to bring potable water to the resort, making water available at all sites and cabins throughout the resort. Both the bath-houses and laundry room are fully opened. We are happy to report we received a permit from the Department of Environmental Protection to dig a new well and increase our storage capacity which should alleviate water availability problems in the future. We thank our members for doing their part to make sure water remained available for everyone during the season.
