Hello from Sunny Luna Sands everyone. It’s sunny in Florida, but it’s been a chilly winter so far. During the month of January, we completed the store renovation and moved back into our original location. Many of you know that we suffered a major storm in July 2020 and suffered severe roof damage. This caused us to move our store and registration office over to the clubhouse. The roof contractors were finally able to schedule our roof to be completed in December. The Interior of the store had to be completely renovated due to rain and storm damage.
As soon as we completed the store remodel, we jumped right into our “Deck” Member Build project which was scheduled for January 23rd. When we moved from the old clubhouse location to the new clubhouse location, we lost our outside party area and TIKI bar. We had planned on building a new deck and TIKI bar last spring but then COVID……. The Clubhouse entry way has been opened up and a party deck built for outside enjoyment. Since this newsletter editing has to be completed prior to the completion of the deck, pictures will be forthcoming in the March newsletter!!! In advance, to all the members that helped complete the deck, thank you.
December began our “busy season” and Phyllis planned our first few group activities. New Year’s Eve was held outside to social distance, and we hosted our annual horse derby outside on the game court. In addition, we started the party deck project and then fed everyone that helped. Because of COVID, most activities are held outside and during mid-day to take advantage of the best weather. What few indoor activities we hold are all done with masks on and social distance seating arrangements. We’re being careful and still having fun.
In February, we have a few fun activities planned: Senior Olympics Weekend February 5th to 7th; Daytona 500 Race Weekend including Valentine Dinner Dance on the 13th; FUNdraising weekend 19th to 21st with Name that Tune Game night and DJ Stan Arel providing the music; and ending February weekends with John Russell and a Magic Show on the 26th.
A highlight at the resort is meeting the team members that work there. One of our team members, Clarence Baker who is our Maintenance Supervisor, has been at Luna Sands now for more than 10 years now. He can be found each morning working on various maintenance tasks and helping members. He always has a smile and great attitude about the everything. He’s knowledgeable about RV’s and doesn’t mind sharing what he knows. In addition to maintenance, you can also find him escorting members to their campsites, providing assistance to all other staff members, and taking care of the water and sewer plants. When he is not “on the clock”, his hobbies include more work and he restores RV’s, motorcycles, vehicles, and he also lover riding his motorcycle. He can provide the best local roads for riding when you are at the Resort.
